PA Alpha Delta alumni establish a Temple-Dedicated Fund and annual Scholarship
Temple University is the most recent Pi Lambda Phi chapter to create a restricted, endowed fund to directly benefit the PA Alpha Delta chapter. To endow the restricted fund, The Alpha Delta House Corporation recently approved a $25,000 disbursement from accrued interest to the Pi Lambda Phi Educational Foundation.
Temple could’ve gone anywhere. They chose the Educational Foundation.
A restricted fund established through the Pi Lambda Phi Educational Foundation is a designated fund for a specific purpose such as scholarship or chapter support. This type of fund also allows for discretionary grants to the chapter for other educational purposes that meet IRS and Pi Lambda Phi Educational Foundation guidelines.
Temple chose to start with an endowment that was large enough that they could begin awarding an annual scholarship immediately, without draining the principal of the fund. The chapter intends to continue growing the principal through ongoing fundraising.
As a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, contributions to the Educational Foundation are tax-deductible, and qualify for programs that companies may offer, like matching contributions.
But wait, there’s more! The Foundation and HQ staff will be happy to create a unique web page for your chapter’s endowed fund.
Annual scholarship honoring the memory of Brother Paul Lucas ’94
Paul Lucas ’94 passed into the Chapter Eternal on August 16, 2025 after years of battling cancer and other complications. Paul was a beloved brother, known by many generations of Pi Lams because he was ever-present at Pi Lam and Temple activities.
In 35 years he never missed a Kovner Banquet, and he was always “working the room” to make an effort to share time (and drinks) with everyone there. Paul truly lived our motto, “not four years, but a lifetime.” He served as Marshal and Rex, and received the Kovner Memorial Award (the most prominent undergraduate award) in 1992. He was a key leader in re-establishing the chapter in 2007, and in 2025 Paul was posthumously awarded the Pi Lambda Phi Council Key.
The first Paul Lucas Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in 2026.
