John Leeke and David Temple

Leaders of Fraternity Inclusion in the Civil Rights Era

With Pi Lambda Phi’s proud history of inclusion and equality, it’s not surprising that our brothers were instrumental in the integration of fraternities in the civil rights era. Dr. John Leeke ’61, Indiana State University, and David Temple ’69, University of Virginia, recently shared their experiences integrating their Pilam chapters in a webinar hosted by our partner organization, the Elimination of Prejudice Foundation.

Fraternity Integration During the Civil Rights Era

In this powerful presentation, Leeke and Temple discuss their struggles with prejudice, the difficult journey to acceptance, and the responsibility to challenge racism. Their candid perspectives show the similarities and differences that our brothers experienced as they overcame biases and helped pave the way for a better understanding ‘twixt men.’
