FIT Chapter Receives the Community Service Award
The Florida Delta Upsilon at Florida Institute of Technology was involved in numerous projects benefiting their greater community including volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, aiding with critical home repairs and helping re-insulate a house. The chapter also participated in Brevard County Heart Walk, partnered with the Gay-Straight Alliance and Active Minds Club for “Destereotype Me Day”, and “Can-struction” which supported the Melbourne Second Harvest Food Bank. With a total of 993 service hours for the year, we thank Florida Delta Upsilon for its efforts to better serve the community and we recognize them with the "Snap" Melniker Community Service Award.
William "Snap" Melniker was a member of the NY Delta chapter at Cornell and graduated in 1916. He was the Pi Lambda Phi brother who kept the International Fraternity organized and operating during World War II. He was a Past President of the International Fraternity and placed a high importance on the community involvement of our chapters. Due to his contributions and passion for community service, this award was named after Brother Melniker.
